Port

Smith Woodhouse - 10 Year Old Tawny

Portugal - Excellent tawny colour gained through ageing in small oak barrels. The nose shows layers of mature fruit aromas, beautifully integrated with nuances of nuts and crystallized dried fruits. On the palate very smooth and mellow, with a well-balanced and long finish. Smith Woodhouse's 10 Years Old Tawny is a perfect match to sweet pastries, such as apple pie with cinnamon. Taste slightly chilled to appreciate the full complexity and sensuous pleasure of this wine. An excellent alternative to Vintage Port at less formal occasions. Will keep for some weeks after opening. 90 out of 100 points Another Symington family brand that often shows well, Smith Woodhouse 10 year old is big and firm, quite tannic even, and very rich and dry. This is a good, solid, powerful wine, with great finishing acidity. Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, August 2006 Lots of dried fruit, toffee and caramel on the nose. Full-bodied and very sweet, with lots of fruit and a medium toffee finish... I like it. James Suckling, Wine Spectator, 15th September 2003

Domaine Faiveley - Chablis 2016

France - This wine displays a pale yellow colour. The elegant nose expresses fruity aromas of grapefruit, lemon and pears. The entry is frank and bold, with an array of mineral and citrus flavours continuing on the palate. The finish is long and balanced. This flavourful, dry Chablis is already a pleasure to drink but shows good ageing potential. Chablis vineyards stretch out across 19 villages along the Serein valley. Chablis, the Golden Gateway to Burgundy devotes itself to producing a crystalline, perfumed, lively and sophisticated wine, whose name has become almost synonymous with fine dry white wine outside France. The producers we have selected provide us with high-quality musts which we vinify in our cellars in Nuits St Georges. They benefit from the same technical means and the same attention as our Cote d'Or wines. The wine is then matured on its fine lees for 10 to 12 months, enabling it to acquire a certain suppleness and to make the aromas more complex.

Birichino Vino - Grenache Vieilles Vignes 2013

USA - Even at the age of 100, George Besson's ungrafted vines are positively pulsing with vitality, producing wines evocative of lavender, black pepper, and sappy, morello cherry fruit. It is often and appropriately used to describe old vine grenache, for the inner core of this wine, seems extracted from deep within the earth. Blessed with fine, integrated tannins, a lithe body, and a powerful reserve of fruit, this grenache can hold its own against the spiciest sauces invented, soothing the heat and providing a peppery counterpoint to hot-tempered BBQ preparations and cold, smoked chorizo alike. With a year in bottle, the rambunctious red fruits settle down a shade, and while still remaining supple, more evolved notes of kirsch liqueur and a touch of aromatic cedar surface. Savour over a smokin' hot girl with spring lamb with rosemary, elk or any other large horned animal], or seared tuna steaks

Torbreck - Cuvee Juveniles 2015

Australia - Juveniles is a 'cult' Parisian wine bar run by eningmatic ex-pat Englishman, Tim Johnston. He's been in Paris more than twenty years and is a passionate promoter of the Rhone Valley and it's wines, particularly individualist, quality minded producers. Dave Powell hit it off with Tim over the years, eventually making a wine exclusively for his wine bar in 1999. In keeping with Tim and Dave's love of Rhone Valley varietals and the fact that they are equally at home in the Barossa, the blend constitutes old-vine Grenache, Mataro (Mourvedre) and Shiraz and was elevaged entirely in stainless steel. Fermented in single vineyard batches, assembled in tank and allowed to complete a natural malo-lactic fermentation before being bottled without filtration or fining in December 2010. Bold and seductive, this youthful, unoaked blend encapsulates all that is great in natural, pure, unseasoned wine. Bold and seductive, this youthful, unoaked blend encapsulates all that is great in natural, pure, unseasoned wine. Its fragrance, intensity and energy are all reminiscent of freshly fermenting must, with ripe juicy flavours of blackberry, spiced cherries, minerals and Asian spices wrapped around a skeleton of fresh acidity and fine mineral laden tannins. Soft and sensuous, this wine is frightfully drinkable already, but as with its predecessors will greatly recompense those who choose to give it a few years in the cellar.
