Rolf Binder - Heinrich Shiraz Mataro Grenache 2014

Australia - Brilliant crimson colour, very bright, almost glowing and pales a little at the rim; pure, fragrant aroma at times floral and violets come to mind but also showing warm climate richness and ripeness; the palate is much more delicate than that of single varietal Shiraz and builds gradually in the mouth and finishes with satisfying, delicious fruit and fine tannins.. Rolf Binder. Three classic varieties have come together in this wine. The combination is 50% Shiraz, 30% Mataro and 20% Grenache. It has produced a full-bodied yet soft wine with a complex structure of the fruit oak and gentle tannins. Each variety adds its individual talents with nuances of chocolate, raspberry, beef stockpot and a berry fruit sweetness. The finish is dry and the flavours linger on the palate with subtle oak and tannin adding to the fruit characters creating a full and comprehensive wine that will drink well now but also benefit from cellaring. The Heinrich is named after Rolf Heinrich Binder, my father and founder of the family winery. I created this wine because of his love of the combination of shiraz, mataro and grenache. Heinrich is an estate wine with the shiraz coming from the Stephanie vineyard, the mataro from the Chri-Ro vineyard planted in 1972 both of which adjoin the winery and the grenache from the Western Ridge vineyard at Gomersal and planted in the early 1950's.

Graham Beck - Brut NV

South Africa - Beautiful harmony between lengthy Chardonnay and fragrant Pinot Noir. The result is a sparkling wine with a fine mousse giving freshness and finesse elegant ripe fruit and light yeast aromas and a rich creamy complexity on the palate. 'Cape sparklers are improving, with Beck ahead of the pack with this stylish citric champagne lookalike; expect more ripeness of fruit and less acidity than the real thing.' Rose Murray Brown MW, The Scotsman 'I've always enjoyed Graham Beck's sparklers, made in the champagne method under the supervision of the legendary Pieter Bubbles Ferreira. This 50-50 blend of chardonnay and pinot noir from the Robertson region is about as good as it gets for a non-champagne fizz, being crisp and clean, but toasty and brioche-like too. A cracking aperitif.' Jonathan Ray, Daily Telegraph

Port

Fonseca - 10 Year Old Tawny

Portugal - During the January following each vintage, Fonseca sets aside a reserve of very concentrated, powerful vintage quality red ports, selected primarily from the firm's own quintas and judged according to their ageing potential. These are placed in cask and cellared. Since wines from different vintages show variation in character, concentration and rate of maturation, tawny ports of age are blended across several vintages to maintain quality and continuity of style, and thus show an 'apparent', or average, age on the label rather than a vintage date. In the very old tawny ports of age, the actual age of each Port in the blend may vary as much as ten years, but in the younger tawnies variation is usually more on the order of five years or less.As tawny ports age, they grow lighter in colour, as they throw their deposit in the cask rather than in the bottle. The process of racking contributes to the oxidation process whereby the wine's fruit qualities gradually diminish and nutty characteristics are acquired. Moreover, Fonseca cellars its aged tawnies in the Douro rather than in Vila Nova de Gaia; the considerable difference in heat and humidity between these two areas lends Fonseca's tawny ports of age a very distinctive 'baked' richness reminiscent of butterscotch. Of an average cask age of ten years, this is a young port of russet colour with brilliant crimson highlights and a fragrant, ripe-fruit bouquet. Its smooth, silky texture and subtle oak nuances are balanced by a fresh acidity and tannic 'grip' that culminate in a long, elegant finish. Chill to just below cellar temperature (about 10 Deg C); any colder kills the aromas of this aged, complex port. In summer, serve at the end of the meal as a refreshing alternative. Also try as one of the few dessert wines to match chocolate. Blend of Grapes: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Cao & Tinta Amarela.

Planeta - Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG 2016

Italy - An intriguing wine with an extraordinary vital energy based on wild fruits, wild strawberries, mulberry and pomegranate. An extremely gastronomic version of Cerasuolo which we like very much for its meaty peppery notes. In the mouth the wine reflects its olfactory impressions and thus we happily re-encounter the black pepper mixed with carob and sweet cherries. Quick on the palate with a very savoury rounded finish with hints of mulberry.

Grace - Koshu Kayagatake 2017

Japan - Appearance; Almost transparent, brilliantly clear Nose; Fresh, delicate grapefruit and lemon aromas with a white floral touch and nuances of lemongrass. Palate; Dry, crisp, delicate, light-bodied, fresh and fruity. Soft and subtle in the mouth, lively citrus acidity, balanced by a spicy note of white pepper, which lingers in the mouth. A pure, ephemeral sensation. Grace Koshu is our signature white wine. We let it rest on its lies for five months before bottling, which gives an extra dimension of richness, and which enables the preservation of its delicate aromas. The fine and delicate characteristics of the wine makes it the perfect match with all kinds of Japanese cuisine. Grace Koshu is also referred to as a representative wine of Japan in the 5th edition of the The World Atlas of Wine co-authored by the veritable Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. Robert Parker in the US, various Masters of Wines and Jamie Goode in the UK have shown enthusiastic appreciation of our wine, as well the Financial Times in the UK.
