Terra Pegoes Vinho Branco 2015

Portugal - Portugal is the source of some great value, straightforward yet uniquely-styled whites, many of which are made from grape varieties seldom found outside of the country. This example comes from the Setúbal Peninsula, a coastal region immediately to the south of Lisbon. A light-bodied and easy-drinking white wine with moderate acidity providing a gentle texture. Subtly floral on the nose, combining hints of blossom with a core of ripe citrus fruit. A great match for chicken tagine with dried apricots and mild aromatic spices.

Croft - Pink

Portugal - Attractive floral notes underline the pungent, aromatic raspberry fruit aromas. The palate is full of deliciously ripe cherry and raspberry fruit flavours with lovely nuances of honey and grapefruit. This innovative new Rose style of Port has been made by a new technique which extracts fresh, fruity flavours and a subtle and delicate pink colour from limited contact with the skins of classic Port grape varieties, grown in top quality vineyards of the Douro Valley. The result is wonderfully fresh and vibrant, full of the rich fruit flavours of Port but with a unique and distinctive appeal. It has created the perfect opportunity for Port to be consumed in the warmer months of the year when Port may not otherwise be the drink of choice. This port is best served chilled and is an excellent aperitif accompanied by roasted almonds or olives. It is also a delicious accompaniment to lighter desserts and fruit. Try some of the Croft Pink Cocktails. Or pour over ice and mix with soda.

Henriques and Henriques - Finest Medium Dry 5 Year Old

Portugal - This 5 Year Old Madeira starts life as fermenting must and is then fortified before undergoing its own very special maturation process. Made of predominantly Tinta Negra Mole Grapes, harvest begins from mid-August due to the warm southerly climate. A unique and highly sophisticated artificial Estufa process is set up for the 5 year old wines, where termperatures rise to 45Deg C before being allowed to cool. This process takes 90 days and renders the wine completely stable. It is then aged in oak casks for 5 years, prior to bottling. The mellowing effect of oak ageing broadens out and adds depth to the fruit flavours, yet with a crispy tangy aftertaste. Ideal served as an aperitif, chilled or with seafood and smoked fish. Madeira should be cellared upright. It loves light, heat and air, but hates frost.

Casal de Ventozela Alvarinho 2016

Portugal - Casal De Ventozela produce one of our most popular Vinho Verdes out of the native arinto grape variety. When we approached them to make single varietal wine from alvarihno (Spanish albarinho) they were only too happy to help. This lively yellow wine is extremely fresh with flavours of citrus and apple. Complexity and depth are added by ageing in oak barrels and time spent on its lees. This is great with any seafood especially if cooked with a touch of chilli.

Henriques And Henriques - Full Rich 3 Year Old

Portugal - A dark, full-bodied, fruity, luscious, fragrant sipping wine. This 'malmsey-style' of wine is best served as a dessert wine. Madeira should be cellared upright. Pairs well with rich foods especially chocolate. Madeira starts life as fermenting must and is then fortified, either to arrest fermentation for a Malmsey or a Bual, or after fermenting out, in the case of Sercial or a Verdelho (to a minimum of 17% alcohol) and undergoes its own very special maturation process. Fermentation takes place at different stages according to the grape variety used. Grapes are picked from mid-August up to the end of October and the special 'estufagem' of the wines begins in January. The Estufa process: The unique character of Madeira was discovered in the 15th Century, when Madeira wines were used as victuals for ship's companies, stored in the holds of caravels. The blowsy heat of the ship's hold was found to have dramatically improved the wines, making them richer and more complex, as well as proving them to be the most stable in heat. This also demonstrated the great ageing potential that they had. The wines are estufa'd usually for 3 months in termperatures rising to 45 degrees C before being allowed to cool. Maturation then starts in wooden casks, which need not be topped up. The wines are not bottled until they are at least 3 years old. Invented in 1938 by Peter Cossart, father of John Cossart, Monte Seco was the first wine he made on his own at the age of 19. It was his answer in terms of Madeira to Fino and Manzanilla.
